The Witchwound Sisters
The Witchwound Sisters is a vast novel, part gothic fairytale, part epic fantasy saga, part comic fable. It tells the story of four sisters, all witches of varying degrees of talent, who live in Shadow, the strange land of both geographical and metaphysical borders which draws in the tormented, the fallen, the hopeless and the lost.
Malady Witchwound, the eldest and most ruthless of the four, decides it is her destiny to rule in Shadow. To do this she seeks one of the Five True Things, whose ownership it is said will lead to dominion over the fates of her fellows. Chalis, her headstrong sister, laboring under a curse brought on from the mistakes of her past, decides to oppose her. Their sister Morwyn cares nothing for such things; morbid and self-obsessed she is busy teasing Valmont, a sad vampire desperate to romance her. The youngest of the sisters, their half-sister Malamee, does not believe she is a very accomplished witch and would like to throw the whole thing in and find a Prince to marry in the neighboring Sunlands.
The destinies of the sisters draws in a vast cast of characters, including a diaper-wearing homunculus guarding an elementalist’s severed but still animated head, a Masked King with a bride for each side of his personality, a lost youth who is a boy by day and girl by night, and many, many more. It tells also of the sisters’ father Merlin Witchwound’s doomed attempt to harness the powers of Fate and its repercussions on his children. What begins in many individual stories rises as characters cross paths and fates intertwine, to climax in massive battle, the clash of magical powers and the destiny of a world entire.
The Witchwound Sisters is complete in a single volume.
